    1. Lianna I know it has been 2 years since you wrote your e-mail about your great grandmother Rosa Arborio, and I just saw it for the first time today in the geneology website in Cigliano. My great uncle, John Arborio, was I believe from Cigliano and probably born the same time as your great grandmother. I say believe because I was looking for my father’s family with surname Calliera who I know is from Cigliano. My great uncle started a construction business in New York State and was quite successful. He put in parts of the New York Thruway, the Taconic Parkway, and Palisades Parkway. The article I have from The Poughkeepsie Journal, dated November 8, 1964, gives all the names and miles. He started in !914 with $5,000, a second hand $800 hand roller, picks and shovels, and a car. In 1964 his company was worth 3 million dollars in equipment and hiring of 1000.workers during the height of construction. My father was honored at his uncle’s 50th anniversary with 35 years of service. He and another gentleman, Armando Martin, worked with my great uncle longer than the family members did. Lianna, I must admit that I have been at this computer for 3 hours actually searching if I am some how related to Hulk Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea and whose great grandfather was from Cigliano. I know in family pictures there is the name Bollea from Cigliano on both sides..My great uncle married Mary Bollea and my parents families were from Cigliano. I must get going to accomplish some things before my family has a hissy fit. Good Luck

  8. My father was born in Cigliano on January 1, 1897. I would like to know the genealogy of my father’s parents, grandparents and great grandparents. If that is possible , how do I proceed ?

  9. I am visiting this summer to Italy and believe my great grandfather is buried in Cigliano. Bartolomeu Vigliano, died in 1959. Any help is appreciated! His son John Vigliano is my Grandfather.

  10. My great grandmother, Margherita Balegno, was from Cigliano. Not sure if she was born there. The manifest from the ship La Bourgogne from Havre to New York says that is were she was from. The arrival date in New York was 27 March 1898. She travelled with her mother Maria Marchetti. Her father’s name is Emilio Balegno. The manifest says that she was 6 months old upon arrival. This would mean that she was born around September or October 1897. I have had a search done in Cigliano (Vc) that returned no result for her birth. How can I get a baptismal registration of her birth? I do not know which church would have that information. Please let me know if you can help me. I will need this document for my application for Italian Citizenship. Thank you.

Unfortunately I do not own more details, like birth date or so…
Even parents names are unknown despte the fact that I asked almost all members from the familiy. The eldest are all gone.

Thanks in advance for your help and support.
    Lionel

    1. Lionel,
My great-grandmother – Elena (Helene Magdelana) Giobellina (see message below) also had a brother – Fortunato and lived in Paudex, Switzerland early 20th cent. I don’t have any information on a brother Maurizio.
      Perhaps we are still related.
      Susan

  12. My great grandmother, Elena Giobellina, was born in Cigliano on April 24, 1890. I am trying to confirm her parents and grandparents names and dates of birth/death.

I believe her parents are: Antonio Giobellina and Catherine Bobba.

Grandparents: Fortunato Giobellina + Catherine Carando.
Guiseppe Bobba + Maria Bablia (?)

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

    1. Hello Susan: While searching for my own ancestors, I was looking through records from the church in Cigliano, Vercelli and ran across the marriage document for Antonio Giobellina and Catterina Bobba. I’m happy to email a copy of that document to you if you will give me your email address. Not sure that will be possible, so I will spell out the details of the document here:

They were married on January 22, 1884 in Cigliano.

Antonio’s father was Fortunato, whose father was Pietro. His mother was Catterina Carando, whose father was Giuseppe Carando.

Catterina’s father was Giuseppe, whose father was Batista. Her mother was Maria Giolito, whose father was Bernardo Giolito
