The name Meana is short for Mediana, meaning in the middle – it was the mid point of the road from Rome to Paris.

di Susa refers to the Susa valley.

As such, to answer Randy’s first question odds are this is not the place he is looking for.

As for the second question, there is no database of people who lived in Meana di Susa in the 1600s

    Dear Sir or Madam:

I have ancestors who go back to Thomas Berthalot, a native of “Mean, Pragelas” who was born in about 1665. Could Mean be another name of the town of Meana di Susa? Also, I’m wondering if “Pragelas” could also be Pragelato?.

My ancestors were Waldensians who lived in the mountains of the Piedmont. They were being attacked by the French because they refused to follow the rules of the Catholic church. Around 1598 they fled their homeland to seek protection in a German village called Dornholzhausen.

I’m trying to confirm the location of “Mean, Pregelas” to narrow down the search for my ancestors. Do you think you could clarify my question about this location? Of course, if there is a database of people who lived in Mean or Meana de Susaa during the 1600’s that could be very helpful.

    Your assistance will be appreciated!.

    Randy
