Thank you for taking this information and trying to help us find out more about my great grandfather Vincent Centanni. We believe he lived in Calabritto, Avellino in the early 1890s and our family records indicate he emigrated from this region for New York/New Jersey sometime around 1891-1896. We trying to locate records that would verify he lived in Calabritto and when he came to the US. We would also like information regarding his parents and any brothers and sisters he may lhave left behind. Again, thank you so much, Joe

Hi Joe, I was online searching for my great grandfather’s lineage and came across your message. My great grandfather was named Alphonso Centanni and he was from Calabritro. He emigrated to Newark around 1894. We should discuss further.

My great grandparents were Rocco Carbone (born in 1857) and his wife, Maria Carbone, (born 1861, with last name Focetola). I suspect they may have been born and or married in Calabritto and had a son, Alfonso (1883?) there. I would appreciate any records you may have on them. They emmigrated to the United States sometime between 1885 and 1891.
I would much appreciate your help.

My great grandfather and grandmother came the the U.S. in June, 1892 through New York via ship from Naples. I was able to locate their arrival record and ships’ manifest from the Ellis Island website. They both were from Calabritto:

Alessio Mattia (born approx. May 1869)
Alphonsina Magaro (born approx. November 1869)

I am travelling to the Sorrento and Naples area in May 2015, and would like to vist Calabritto. I’m also hoping too find any birth or other records of my great grandparents, and to discover if there are any other related Mattia descendents still living in the town.
Any assistance or contact information will be greatly appreciated.

Would like to research my family from Calibritto. Could you possibly help in this endeavor.

    10. Steven Cozzi

First, thank you for taking my information.

I have conducted a great deal of research for my family tree but have hit a dead end on records from Italy.

My Great Great Grand Father Luciano Cozzi came to America in 1893 when he was 7 years old with his father Angelo M. Cozzi.

      Angelo’s wifes name was Carmello.

The 1st US Census shows the spelling of the name as “Cuzzo”.

I have searched for Angelo M. Cozzi (Cuzzo??) and Carmello’s Marriage Certificate with negative results. I cannot locate any records for there arrival at the Port of New York but Luciano’s US Naturalization states he arrived June 3rd, 1893 from Naples but I have not located any records of arrival for any of the Cozzi’s. My goal is to find my Families true name and where in Calabritto they lived.

Any assistance you can offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Steve Cozzi

      1. pasquale

You may also want to check for the spelling Cuozzo. it is a very common sirname in the Campania region of Italy.
