Hello, Im researching my grandfather Thomas Vincent Sollas or Sola who was a very successful builder–developer in Glen Rock area of NJ ( there were streets named after him). He was my mother’s father who migrated from Naples/ Ariano Irpino to the states in his early teens. When I was just a boy, ( I’m 55 now) he told me that his mothers family name was Parzanese ( which my mother stills holds true) and that his uncle was a / bishop / poet. My mothers bother ( Thomas Sollas jr) made several visits in the 80’s trying to claim property but to no avail. Its funny that Im a writer finishing up a YA novel. In any event, I have found little on his Ellis Island documents, any help on your end would so much appreciated ! I am traveling to Capri in September and would love to discover the mystery of my grandfather. Unlike my uncle, ( no dead) I have no interest in any claims other then our family tree.

      1. Kathleen

Hi, I am looking up my grandmother, Anna Sollas (surname changed at Ellis Island) who was the sister of Thomas and George. The uncle – bishop/poet you mention is Pietro Paulo Parzanese is our great great uncle who was a famous Italian opera writer and there is a statue of him in Ariano Irpino. Do you have a relative named Peppy? Trying to figure out if we are talking about the same family.

      Hello,

Michele’s father was Ottone Riccio, born about 1840.

My grandmother’s name is Elvira Verosini, born 15 December 1901, we believe. We believe her father’s name was Carlo Pugliaro. She was possibly given up for adoption. This is the only information we have on her.- VEROSINI ELVIRA (16/2/1901) was found at 8.05 on 17 Feb 1901. A little girl wrapped in a few rags of the apparent age of one day on the public wheel positioned at 23 Via Adinolfi.

He arrived in the US in 1891, and married Maria Coronavetra Villacara. I have found a number of Mainieros in the US, but most trace themselves to Castelfranco in Mescano (which isn’t far away). I believe there are Mainieros, at leasta few, including the mayor, who are in Ariano Irpino. Can you point me to a starting place?
