    2. Hello,

My 2nd great grandfather was Antonio Cirigliano. He was born in 1873 in Italy. He arrived in New York City in 1884 and settled there. He was naturalized in 1896 and raised a family in NYC.

Since his last name was Cirigliano, I was wondering if he definitely came from Cirigliano in Matera or if there are other areas I should look at. I could not find where he immigrated from in any records.

      Thank you so much.

    3. Hello,

I would love any information. My grandfather was Giuseppe DeRosa lived-in Cirigliano from 1912-1934. His siblings all lived in Cirigliano at one time. They are Nicola, Giovanni, Camilla, Mariastella, and Antonetta. Their mother was Cristina Quirino, died in Cirigliano in 1970. Her husband was Saverio DeRosa. I believe I may have relatives living there with the surname of Villone as well, since that was the maiden name of Cristina’s mother.

Mr grandmother was Rosa Fortuna born in Cirigliano. Her brother was Giuseppe. Their parents were Francesco and Margarita.

I am visiting Italy and Cirigliano in August. I would love to know if anyone has heard of the people mentioned above. I realize it was a long time ago.

      1. My great grandparents were also from Cirigliano. They were Joe and Filomena SanSeverino which was the original pronunciation. I can’t remember the exact relationship but he was related to Marinos. I’d have to check again. They ended up in Revelstoke and also I believe, came through Ellis Island according to records I found. He came earlier and then went back to marry a younger girl and brought her back. I wish I’d found your msg sooner! My mother is a Sanservino (changed spelling by my grandparents) and she’d remember better. They had 6 children, one of whom was my grandfather Nick (Vito Nicola).
